This project is to design, implement, and experiment with ways to extract usable energy from highly renewable biological sources - e.g. algae.
- Many members donated 2-liter bottles for the project.
- Starbuck scrounged some 2-liter carriers for the project.
Erik is gathering materials and doing research for this project.
- The project needs CLEAN 2-liter bottles to construct the algae holding tanks with. There is a box in the Hive marked for donations. Some have been donated, but we need a whole lot more!
Going to test several methods of algae cultivation to see what works best.
There may be a need for fertilization. We need to test how algae grows in plain tap, dechlorinated, with fertilizer, and with a seed of water with algae such as out of a fish tank. If the amount produced by one of these methods is much greater than normal it will be worth pursuing. Cost of dechlorinator and fertilizer would have to be low enough per amount of algae grown. See links for algae fertilization solutions.
Reportingsjr is bringing an assortment of fertilizers (KNO3, some phosphates, etc) so a standard test can be run.
Reactor Design (We should definitely go with a modular design)
