Hive13 Project
Fuel Community Collaboration
Status: Inactive
Start Date: 01/12/2010

Provide technology support and training to the Cincinnati Fuel program for citizens returning to the Cincinnati area from the Correctional System.

Fuel Community is a new nonprofit organization dedicated to providing advocacy, support, and employment services to ex-offenders. The goal of Cincinnati Fuel is to reduce the rate of recidivism in the neighborhoods of Avondale, Over the Rhine, and Price Hill. According to Fuel's business plan, studies have shown that as many as 70% of people leaving the prison system and returning to these neighborhoods end up returning to prison. The Fuel program is looking to secure funds to employ returning citizens in environmentally sustainable projects involving the re-use of materials.

Fuel Community is a task force of activists, community leaders, and human services types and is in need of technical support. The goal of this project is for Hive13 to partner with Fuel Community to build a web presence for the task force, and to assist with technology training and support for Fuel clients and staff. Future projects could include setting up computers and video gaming systems in Fuel Community centers for clients and their families to learn computer skills and have fun in safe environments that are free of drugs and violence.
