I met an older gentleman by the name of David who has been into model railroading for quite some time now, and has one or two HO sized trains (and associated equipment) he is willing to leave with us for the time being. We have made plans to bring them to the space on Saturday July 11th to work with on an unused part of the floor. I've spoken with Craig and he says it's alright as long as no one has a problem with it while we're there.

This is the center for Hive13's model railroad enthusiasts.

Model Railroading is a hobby in which rail transport systems are modeled at a reduced scale, or ratio. The scale models include locomotives, rolling stock, streetcars, tracks, signaling; roads, buildings, vehicles, model figures, lights, and features such as streams, hills and canyons.

I've been interested in model trains lately, I used to do this with my father but never explored it much otherwise. I thought it would be cool to have a set of tracks discretely positioned to circle the hive; providing mindless entertainment, a possible gimmick (see awesome_toy) for membership incentive, could result in a sweet intro video w/ a webcam strapped to one of the train cars. --Xio2 23:43, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Due to the inherent nature of model railroading, your layout and setting can be as permanent or as temporary as you see fit.

Modular Layouts

Modular-based layouts make it possible to lay out huge rail systems that are different every time without needing a dedicated space for the setup, though they lack the potential for sophisticated landscaping one can achieve with a more permanent layout.

Static Layouts

Layouts that are more static in nature have the advantage of being able to make use of rolling landscaping and intricate modeled environments, however. They are often restricted to as much or as little space you have available
