Daily Operations

Startup procedures - How to open the Hive

  • Turn on the lights! Front area light switches are to the right of the elevator toward the middle of our space. Rear area light switches are in the very rear (Dungeon) to the left of the back elevator. Walk all the way back and make a right when you have to. Walk again until you have to turn again. The elevator and the switches will be on your left.
  • [This is canceled while we are in a COVID emergency.] Normally: Turn on the "Hive Open" switch near the main door. Only do this if you're prepared to let in new people.

Using Hive13

  • Report problems - Report broken or missing tools email the wardens.
  • Respect the tools - Stay Safe.
    1. If you are unfamiliar with the proper operation of a machine or tool, research it on the wiki. Also contact the area warden or an officer before use.
    2. If you don't understand a tool, leave it alone. Don't mess with something you don't understand. Get Help. Read the tool wiki, Ask for help on Slack. Ask a Warden.
  • Clean as you go - As with cooking in your own kitchen, cleaning at the hive is more easily managed in small bursts of activity. Put tools away and clean minor messes whenever you have a few moments of downtime.
  • There are NO restrictions on the use of loud tools/music including: angle grinders, belt and disk sanders, air compressor/air tools, CNCs, etc. However, if you are going to make enough noise that people nearby would need hearing protection, let them know ahead of time.
