Certification

Hive13 Tool Certification is about making sure you don’t hurt yourself or hurt the machine. Many of the machines are powerful and can be dangerous. Certification is more like the driver’s license exam than learning to drive. We don’t want anyone to get hurt, especially while working alone.

Most Hive13 members already have technical educations and years of experience with tools. Tool Certification checks on that education, including a safety orientation. The best preparation for learning about a tool and becoming certified is to read that tool wiki page. Then contact the area warden to talk with them about your experience, what you know and what you want to learn. Together we can figure out where you are on the learning curve and help you along the path. The wardens will also be able to tell you about any upcoming classes.

Though we come to Hive13 to learn, Hive13 isn't a formal school. Formal classes take time and effort. Which makes teaching = work and teaching <> fun. Members occasionally volunteer to share what we know when we have the time and interest. More often we share because we like to sit around and talk. This is why classes are not on a firm schedule.
