Welcome Guests!
- About us
- Introductions
- What kind of things are you interested in doing/making?
- How did you hear about us?
Upcoming events
- Tuesday in-person open house meetings are cancelled for the time being.
Recent Improvements
- Investment Casting!
- The beginning of the jewelry casting group buy is here!
- Casting machine and wax are here and ready to use. Torch isn't here yet but is in transit.
- Kevin and Kayla will be doing burnout and casting of some stuff we made on Sunday (1/24) if anyone wants to cast something at the same time with us, go ahead and carve some wax and get with Kevin to invest it. Excited to see how it turns out!
- Hotpot also available for low temperature melting (ie lead, pewter, zinc, solder, etc)
- 24 hour video sign has been added to the fun front door
- General purpose vacuum pot/chamber has been ordered (useful for resin degassing, wood stabilization, etc)
- Also parts, fittings and oil for existing vacuum pump has been ordered
- Added safety capabilities for table saw. Made for larger cuts but can easily be removed for smaller cuts.
- Ask Austin Lutz if you need assistance on how they work / how to set them up.
- Two very nice tool boards have appeared in the woodshop
- More electrical progress!
- Ceiling outlet in the meeting room with extension cord to tables. No more massive extension cord to get power to the tables! Whoo!
- Wired 240V in glass/jewelry/ceramics area
- Disposable pens at sign in desk
- Or you can just keep it!
Discussion
- We could use more tables
- We can easily make more pallet rack work benches
- Can be made in about an hour and material is here
- Also could make more of the large tables brought over from old space
- Kevin M still has the plans from making these if anyone is interested in taking those on
- The landlord offered us some "tables" from near the loading dock
- They may or may not be suitable for our needs and two of them are electrified
- More table space needed in Kitchen
- The number of small appliances seems to be growing all the time
- We can easily make more pallet rack work benches
- Cordless drill needs, quick survey
- More cameras for the space are in the process of happening. Stay tuned
FYI

Minutes
Attendance
- Jim D, Dave S, John C, Kayla L, Chris H, Dave V, Gautam S, Chris D, Ralph B, Dave B, Colin W
Group Buy
- It's awesome that people came together to raise funds to get the investment casting stuff going. Props to Kevin M for spearheading that, (along with previously doing something similar with glass)
- This is a great representation of the community aspect of Hive 13 that we love. You did this!
- Interest in putting up some sort of plaque acknowledging donors to show future members (and even current members) an example of what can be done if you have an idea
Leave of Abschwinnce
- Dave S has a fairly substantial surgery coming up in early Feb, and needs to take time to focus on his health.
- Couldn't get rid of him if we tried. Will still be present online, but briefly stepping away from leadership and leadership decisions.
Space Improvements / Projects / Expenses
- Jim and Dave V working on verbiage to organize fund raising for AC in a similar manner to the casting group buy. Figuring out clearly what is needed, etc
- We really need a kitchen plan.
- Cost forecasting for the new space is difficult - obviously it's larger and we've made improvements that will have more maintenance costs, etc.
- Discussion over increase in warden budget / splitting into upkeep budget
- Discussion to happen offline on amounts, etc. Leadership will discuss and if vote needs to be put up to do ^
- Yarn bombing - super exciting! would be useful to post photo examples in case people are unaware with the concept.
- John C going to ask around for how often we use cordless drills and if our needs are met.
Tables
- We have more tables than we realize
- Jail tables are still in the back that Chris D brought
- Workstation tables (such as the one in the glass area) are simple to make and material is already at the space as it's recycled
- Landlord has offered us some surfaces
- They're free. They can work as placeholders and then be tossed if we need something nicer down the line.
- Will need to have electrical removed - easy enough
- Need to have more space to park kitchen appliances
